Pianist, arranger and composer Jukka Nykänen (b. 1976 in Helsinki, Finland) studied piano at the Espoo Music with Kata Nummi and at the Sibelius Academy with Teppo Koivisto. He graduated in 2004 and had his debut recital in 2006. In masterclasses he has been taught by Konstantin Bogino, Matti Raekallio, Liisa Pohjola and Pascal Devoyon. His studies also included composition, keyboard harmony and lied.

As a pianist Nykänen is known for his versatility and improvisation skills. He has created a large repertoire of his own piano arrangements based on themes from musicals, movies, tv-shows and folk songs. His first solo album Pianovirtuoso (2007) got excellent reviews and was chosen one the best albums of 2007 by Helsingin Sanomat. The second album Kotimaani (Piano Wizard) was released in 2012.

Nykänen has performed frequently in several music festivals like Espoo International Piano Festival, Kuhmo Chamber Music, LuostoClassic and Turku Music Festival. He has also performed in Germany and United States.

Nykänen has worked with orchestras, radio, tv, opera, ballet and theatre. He has played in numerous musicals e.g. Les Misérables, Evita, Miss Saigon, Producers, Mary Poppins and Wicked. He has also composed several musicals.
