Baritone singer, composer and actor. Gained a Bachelor of Culture and Arts, studied singing at the Conservatory of Helsinki 2002-2006 and at the Metropolia University of Applied Sciences 2008-2013; acting and physical comedy at the Open University of the Finnish Theatre Academy in 2008-2014, as well as music composition at the Tampere University of Applied Sciences 2003-2010.

Jouni has worked as a soloist of the Avanti! Chamber Orchestra, chorus singer at the Finnish National Opera, as well as a guest actor in the Finnish National Theatre. He has composed and directed music for several plays, including Valpurinyö at the Finnish National Theatre, and Woyzeck at the Kokkola City Theater. Plays, that Bäckström wrote music for, have won awards at international festivals (Special Jury Prize of the FIST Festival “Knives Cut the Air” in 2006 and “Nevermind” 2008), and have received invitations to the Helsinki Festival (“Knives Cut the Air” Theatre Nirvana in 2012 and “Peer Gynt – Man at the top of the world” Seinäjoki City Theatre 2013). His concert music has been performed at the Tampere Biennale and at the Savonlinna Opera Festival. In 2014 Jouni sang the highly praised role of Lahtinen in the Unknown Soldier opera in Oulu City Theatre.
